Video-Based Health Education Boosts Breastfeeding Rates in South Ethiopia
Video-based health education was tested to see if it could improve breastfeeding practices in infants aged 0-6 months in South Ethiopia. The study involved 16 communities, with some receiving the video intervention and others standard health messages. While there were no significant differences in reported breastfeeding practices between the two groups, the intervention did lead to higher rates of exclusive breastfeeding at 4 and 5 months postpartum. However, when measured using a specific technique, the actual exclusive breastfeeding rates were lower than reported. The video intervention also increased human milk intake at 3 months but did not have a significant impact on exclusive breastfeeding as measured by the technique.
