Family and Friends Key in Providing Breastfeeding Advice to New Moms
The study looked at where first-time mothers in Sri Lanka get advice about breastfeeding before giving birth. They found that most mothers get information from both professionals and non-professionals, like family and friends. The main non-professional sources were their own mothers, followed by other family members and friends. They talked about topics like how to breastfeed, common problems, and using formula milk. Many mothers also used the internet for breastfeeding advice. The study suggests that while family and friends are important sources of information, more research is needed to check if the advice given is accurate and helpful.
