Unwashed vegetables and bare feet increase risk of parasitic infections
Intestinal parasites are a big health issue in Central Gondar, Ethiopia. A study at Dembiya Primary Hospital found that over half of the people tested had these infections. The most common parasite was Entamoeba histolytica. Factors like age, wearing shoes, eating unwashed vegetables, and using the toilet were linked to higher infection rates. Mothers were 16 times more likely to have parasites, while people who didn't wear shoes were 31 times more at risk. Eating unwashed veggies increased the risk by 28 times. To help prevent these infections, it's important to promote good hygiene, safe water, and proper footwear.
