Nutrition education in pregnancy boosts birth weight in urban Ethiopia
Nutrition education given to pregnant women in urban areas of Southeast Ethiopia can help control weight gain during pregnancy and improve the birth weight of newborns. A study conducted on 447 pregnant women showed that those who received nutrition education had better gestational weight gain and higher birth weights for their babies compared to those who did not receive the education. The education sessions focused on dietary diversity, food security, and knowledge about fruits and vegetables. The study used complex statistical models to analyze the effects of the education on weight gain and birth weight, showing direct and total positive impacts.
