Hookworms rampant among pregnant women in Uganda, posing serious health risks.
Pregnant women in Uganda were studied to see how common helminth infections are and what factors are linked to them. The researchers found that about 27.54% of pregnant women had helminth infections, with hookworm being the most common type. Factors like age, living in rural areas, not having a toilet, not washing hands after using the toilet, walking barefoot, and not washing hands before meals were all linked to having helminth infections. Overall, the prevalence of helminth infections in pregnant women in Uganda was lower than in other parts of the world.
