Rising induction rates in childbirth not linked to lower cesarean rates.
The induction rate of labor increased in a maternity unit from 2014 to 2021, even without a medical reason. The cesarean section rate for induced women decreased during this time. Inductions for breech and fetal pathology cases saw the biggest increase. Cesarean rates decreased for multiple pregnancies and maternal pathologies but not for inductions without medical reasons. Overall, the increase in inductions did not lead to a change in cesarean rates.
