Child labor in Bangladesh leads to high injury rates and malnutrition.
Children in Bangladesh working in dangerous jobs in the informal sector face serious health risks, including injuries and malnutrition. A study analyzed medical data from Médecins Sans Frontières clinics in Dhaka from 2014 to 2023. They found that most children worked with machinery, suffered from musculoskeletal and skin conditions, and had a high rate of work-related injuries. Boys were more likely to be injured than girls, with metal factory workers at the highest risk. Many children also experienced mental health issues, and half were malnourished. The study emphasizes the urgent need for child-centered research and collaborative efforts to eliminate child labor.
