UTIs linked to anemia in elderly: Urgent need for healthcare improvements.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common among elderly people in India and can lead to anemia. A study looked at data from elderly individuals aged over 60 to understand the factors contributing to UTIs. Results showed that about 2.5% of the elderly had UTIs, with higher rates in older males, diabetics, and anemic individuals. UTI prevalence varied by region, with the Eastern region having the highest rates. Factors like age, income, education, and health conditions like diabetes and hypertension were linked to UTIs. Anemia was found to be a significant risk factor for UTIs. Improving healthcare access, sanitation, and public awareness is crucial for addressing UTIs and related health issues in India's elderly population.
