Local anaesthesia in prostate biopsies: Precision, comfort, and cost-effectiveness confirmed.
Prostate cancer is a serious health issue, but new methods like MRI-targeted biopsies are helping to detect it better. A study looked at using local anaesthesia for transperineal biopsies, which are less risky for infection. They found that patients who were more anxious before the biopsy felt more pain during it. However, overall, patients tolerated the procedure well with local anaesthesia. It was also cost-effective and didn't affect the accuracy of the biopsy. This shows that using local anaesthesia for transperineal biopsies can be a good option, giving patients comfort and saving resources. More research is needed to confirm these results.
