Bacterial vaginosis linked to urinary tract infections in pregnant women.
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a common issue in pregnant women, linked to preterm labor and low birth weight. A study in North India compared two methods to diagnose BV and found that Amsel's criteria had good accuracy but Nugent's scoring system was more sensitive. They also discovered that 40.4% of women with BV also had Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), showing a strong connection between the two conditions. BV can be diagnosed using Amsel's criteria when lab equipment is not available, but Nugent's criteria are more reliable.
