Low acceptance of immediate postpartum contraception in Ethiopia poses risks.
The researchers wanted to see how many women in Ethiopia accepted using a birth control device right after giving birth. They asked 373 women who had just had a baby at four hospitals in Ethiopia. Only 9.9% of the women agreed to use the device. The researchers found that the way the baby was delivered, how many pregnancies the woman had, and the partner's job were important factors in whether the women accepted the device. The study showed that more education and research are needed to understand why women are hesitant to use this type of birth control right after giving birth.
