New study reveals potential impact of premature baby milk composition.
The study analyzed the composition of breast milk from 25 mothers of premature babies in Uruguay. They found that the milk had an average of 1.21g protein, 7.44g lactose, and 3.0g fat per 100mL. The lipid profile showed high levels of saturated fatty acids (46.35%) and lower levels of monounsaturated fatty acids (34.33%). The most abundant fatty acid was palmitic acid, and linoleic acid levels were similar to previous studies. The omega-3 fatty acid content was 1.20% on average. The study suggests that maternal diet influences the essential fatty acids and omega-3 derivatives in breast milk.
